Radon Gas Testing
Professional radon measurement services — Health Canada aligned.
Overview
Protect your indoor air quality with professional radon testing across Vancouver Island.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that enters buildings from the soil. It is invisible, odorless, and tasteless — making professional measurement the only reliable way to detect it.
We provide science-based radon measurements following Canadian guidelines to help you understand your long-term exposure risk.

How it works
How radon enters your home
Radon is produced underground and rises through soil. Once it reaches your foundation, even tiny gaps let it inside — invisible, odorless, and accumulating over time.
Foundation cracks
Hairline cracks in concrete walls and slabs.
Sump pump
Open pits create a direct soil-to-air path.
Floor joints
Construction joints between slab and walls.
Pipe gaps
Service entries for water, gas, sewer.
Crawl space
Exposed soil under the home releases radon.

What is radon?
Radon gas is produced from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. Because it is heavier than air, it accumulates in lower levels such as basements.
Why radon is a health concern
Long-term exposure to elevated radon may increase the risk of lung cancer. Health Canada identifies radon as the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada after smoking.
- Higher concentration levels increase risk
- Longer exposure time increases risk
- Poor ventilation concentrates radon indoors
- Smoking significantly amplifies radon risk
Why radon matters in British Columbia
Radon levels in BC vary significantly due to geology. Vancouver Island homes — especially in the central and north Island — sit on uranium-bearing bedrock, and that combined with tight modern building envelopes, crawl-spaces, and seasonal pressure differences can drive levels well above the action limit. The only way to know your risk is to test.

Long-Term Radon Testing
90-day average measurement using passive detectors. This is the Health Canada–recommended method and the most accurate measure of annual exposure.
Rapid Radon Screening (Sniffing)
~4 hour on-site diagnostic scan that identifies potential high-risk areas (basements, crawl spaces, ground floors). Useful for real estate transactions and urgent assessments.
Short-Term Screening
2–7 day preliminary assessment, useful for quick screening. Often followed up with a long-term test.
Continuous Radon Monitoring (CRM)
Real-time hourly tracking with high-precision measurement, ideal for diagnostic and professional investigations.
Note:Rapid screening is a preliminary tool, not a replacement for Health Canada–recommended long-term measurement.
What you receive
After testing you receive a clear report that includes:
- Average radon concentration (Bq/m³)
- Health Canada guideline comparison
- Exposure risk interpretation
- Non-technical explanation in plain language
- Recommendations if mitigation is needed
The fix
How mitigation removes radon
A sub-slab depressurization system creates a low-pressure zone under the foundation — radon is captured before it enters the home and vented harmlessly above the roof.
Suction below the slab
A pipe is set into the soil beneath the basement floor.
Sealed entry points
Cracks and gaps in the foundation are sealed shut.
Inline radon fan
A continuous low-watt fan pulls air up through the pipe.
Vented above the roof
Radon disperses safely high above living spaces.
If high radon levels are found
Elevated radon is treatable. A properly installed mitigation system can typically reduce levels by 80–95%.
- Sub-slab depressurization system
- Sealing cracks and foundation gaps
- Ventilation improvements
- Post-mitigation verification testing
